The City's zoning ordinances are on file in the Kirtland Public Library, or are available at $10.00 per copy from the City Clerk at the Kirtland Municipal Center. Following is a quick summary of some of the requirements covered in the ordinance chapter. NEW STRUCTURES Zoning permits are required for all new structures of any size, including sheds, room additions, etc. Permits are also required for any swimming pool (above ground or below ground) and any deck; also for any fence (living fences do not need permits, but have limits on their density). Some of these zoning permits will require additional building permits issued by Lake County Building Dept. Any accessory building over 1,000 square feet in total area must have the approval of the Planning and Zoning Commission. REPAIRS: You do NOT need a permit for repairs to your home, like siding, painting, furnace repair, roof maintenance, etc. The City of Kirtland requires contractors to register, set bonds, and be licensed in the city. The Lake
County Building Dept. requires plumbers and electricians to be licensed
in the county. Almost anything done to your property nowadays requires
a permit; therefore, a call to city hall is your safest and surest start
to each and every project a resident undertakes. If you have any question
regarding any of the information given here please contact us at City
Hall. All About Kirtland || Businesses || Higher Learning || School Systems || Places of Worship || Organizations || HOME PAGE |
